One of the main reasons that we chose Apex as our place to call home
almost 6 years ago was because of the beautiful downtown area. Growing
up in Hendersonville, NC, I was used to having a town center that
everyone would come to for special events throughout the year. In 2008, I was privileged to be able to open a baby boutique along Salem St. and have enjoyed making friends with long-time locals and the people that help make Apex a truly wonderful place to live.
One of the best events of the year is Christmas on Salem. Every year, downtown Apex kicks off the holidays with three days of holiday fun. On December 2nd, the event starts off with the annual tree lighting and caroling at the Apex Chamber. The streets are closed to traffic allowing people to wander through the beautifully decorated stores and mingle on the street with friends. It is a great time to find unique treasures for your family. At 6pm, horse drawn sleigh rides take families for rides through downtown. On December 3rd at 9am, the day starts with a pancake breakfast at the Salem Street Fire Station sponsored by the Apex Rotary Club. Following, kids can visit Santa and Mrs. Claus. Spend the afternoon shopping in downtown Apex where you will find everything from toys, fabulous holiday outfits and beautiful decor for your home. Get a quick bite at one of the wonderful restaurants and get ready for the parade at 5pm. The Christmas Parade draws approximately 15,000 people each year so make sure to claim your seat early. Local marching bands, fun floats and of course Santa Claus will fill the night with a spectacular show of lights and sounds. On Sunday, December 4th, the Apex the Apex Historical Society will host their annual Tour of Historic Homes. You can buy tickets in advance. If you are looking for a place to show your children that small town feel, come to downtown Apex, NC on December 2nd, 3rd and 4th. It will be a holiday memory they won't forget!
