Nursery Extends Green Babies
GreenPea™ Baby, nestled in the historic downtown Apex shopping district, is SouthwestWakeCounty's premier baby boutique, with an important added bonus: a commitment to helping parents make the best choices for their baby's health, their family's budget and lifestyle, and the planet's future. After having thyroid cancer in her late 30s, founder and Apex native Krista Cathey was driven to research chemical effects, and later expanded her expertise by acquiring a green building certification. She combined this knowledge with her passion for children and the Earth's future to create a hip, healthy alternative that educates and extends the option of “green” baby and home products to a more mainstream audience.
“There are so many choices for parents to make,” said Krista, “and they need to be able to get the facts and understand the short and long-term implications in order to make the choices that are best for their family.
“When baby comes home, we all want to keep them safe. But it's not about guilt or judging -- or sacrificing what's adorable -- it's about finding the right balance. The more confident parents are in their decisions, the happier they will be - our motto expresses that commitment: Healthy, Hip Happy.”
On Earth Day 09 (Tuesday, April 22), GreenPea™ Baby will kick off a major educational and promotional campaign to introduce parents to the top 12 actions that will make the biggest difference for both their baby's and the planet's health - and to help reassure them that they don't have to be perfect. Rolling out over several months the campaign, “Every Little Bit Helps!” will teach parents 12 important choices for baby and planet.
The emphasis will be on understanding the options so that parents can make the right choice for their baby, their family and the planet.
The first choice and focus for Earth Day will revolve around today's cloth diapering vs. disposables. (Facts: Choosing disposable diapers and wipes will add up to nearly $2000 a year. Twenty five million trees are manufactured into baby diapers each year. Disposable diapers are the third largest contributor to our landfills.)
The information-based campaign will use multiple channels to reach its audience:
Free information will be available both in the store and at GreenPea™ Baby.com, including a downloadable quick-reference guide, more in-depth articles and checklists, plus videos and an opportunity for parents to exchange real-life observations, stories and video with one another;
A bi-weekly radio show, starting on Earth Day, on Blog Talk Radio through which Ms. Cathey will give listeners access to experts in each key topic area, and provide live Q&A sessions with parents;
Special guests at the store on Earth Day (guest list in development).
From April 21 to April 25, a unique promotion to make it easier and more affordable for parents to test the first big choice first-hand: cloth diapering vs. disposables: 15 percent off a starter set, a free beginner's class and step-by-step information.
